The shelter has two wells - a small surface auxiliary well which was updated in 2024 with a new pump and new plumbing. After disinfection and cleaning, this well is in use with regular water quality controls, but it is not sufficient for the needs of the entire shelter.

The main deep artesian well (132 meters deep) was dug in 2018 and has recently failed. The water composition is no longer chemically correct and the authorized laboratory deemed it unsafe for animals and humans alike.

In the meantime, Dejan is having to supplement the auxiliary well by bringing 1200-1500 liters of water daily into the shelter at a cost of over US$5,000 monthly. This is not a viable long-term solution.

The solution is to dig a new deep well high above the main shelter grounds to ensure that pesticides from neighboring fruit farms and animal feces would not leach into the new water well.

The cost for the new well is estimated at US$20,000.

The NEED FOR WATER IS AS IMPORTANT IF NOT MORE IMPORTANT THAN FOOD. THE NEED FOR A NEW WATER WELL IS URGENT.
